VOLUNTEERS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS (VIPs)

VIPs mentors provide personal mentoring or academic support for children in the Cullman Area Primary and Elementary Schools. If you have a child that is need of a VIPS mentor, your teacher or guidance counselor can help you join the program.

Students can be deemed “at-risk” of academic failure for a variety of reasons from multiple moves in a short period of time, changes of custody due to a death in the family or a divorce, disruption of routine family life due to a multitude of circumstances, etc.  Sometimes the student may face a purely academic struggle, but generally there are family issues as well.

VIPS mentors typically spend one hour each week during the school year working one-on-one with their assigned student. Building relationships is the number one goal for our VIPS mentors. One hour once a week really can change the life of a child!

YOUTH PROGRAMS

INDIVIDUAL TUTORING.

The Link offers after-school tutoring and a limited amount of other one-on-one tutoring options that typically take place on The Link campus.  Most tutors meet with students for one hour once a week.  If your child is in need of a tutor, you can contact Dakota Trammell, Literacy Coordinator.  Dakota will work to match your student with a tutor who has time availability when your student can come in.  Students must have transportation to and from The Link and the ability to come at the same time for tutoring each week.

Call or email Dakota to discuss your child’s individual needs and to arrange for a time for your student to meet with an after-school tutor.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT.

The Link’s Summer Enrichment Program takes place over several weeks each summer.  Students who have completed Kindergarten through 5th grade will be offered enrichment activities to help them discover their gifts, talents, and abilities for their future.  Volunteers will be available to tutor students in summer bridge activities to help students retain what they have learned in the previous grade and prepare them for the upcoming academic year.  Lunch and snack are provided on each day the program meets.  Dates and times for each year’s program are typically announced in early spring and parents will be given the opportunity to pre-register their children for the program at no cost.
